About Dimensions of Desire: Fact, Fiction & Floorplan: The peer consultation group will explore the ways in which couples can maintain a satisfying sexual connection in the long term. The group will include pscyhoeducation and small group breakout activities as well as clinical consultation. We will use Emily Nagoski's Come Together as our guiding text to explore tools to implement with individuals or couples looking to address desire and intimacy in long term relationships.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, participants will be better able to...

  • Utilize Nagoski's floorplan intervention with couples to develop an understanding of how each partner accesses desire and intimacy

  • Identify three myths regarding maintaining desire in long term relationships

  • Identify three factors that may impede intimacy in the couples system

  • Identify three ways that gender plays a role in how couples discuss desire and intimacy

Materials to be used:

Emily Nagoski's "Come Together"

About the Instructor:

Miranda Croteau is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AASECT certified sex therapist. She is the owner of Witch City Couples Therapy in Salem, MA where she helps couples address sex as the elephant in the room. She works with couples to acknowledge the intense feelings that may come up when we talk about sex, but take the sting out of them so conversation around sex and intimacy feels easier. She works extensively with the queer, kinky, and CNM/poly communities as well as couples deciding to repair or part ways after a relationship rupture. She is the co-chair of the Training and Education Committee for the New England Association for Family and Systemic Therapy, as supervisor in training with AASECT, and under mentorship working toward her Approved Supervisor designation through AAMFT. She provides licensing supervision as well as case consultation to other mental health professionals.
