As family therapists, we want to make a positive difference in our clients’ lives. Family life, however, is often messy and complex, and navigating multiple family perspectives, each with its own anguish and turmoil, can be overwhelming. EFFT offers a model of intervention that meets families exactly where they get stuck and enables them to have new conversations that build connection and promote resilience for children. This workshop will focus on how therapists can help build a secure base for the next generation by strengthening the family unit.EFFT is an attachment based family therapy model that restructures negative interaction and promotes bonding conversations between parents and their children. In the first stage of therapy, the EFFT therapist enables parents to process their personal blocks that stand in the way of their positive intention to be there for their children. In the second stage of therapy, the EFFT therapist works to reactivate children’s needs for care through processing their mistrust and attachment fears. Finally, the EFFT therapist consolidates the gains made in therapy to equip families to face problems and life challenges together.
