Friday, November 01, 2019, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM EDT
Category: Consortium Events
Presented by Jeremiah Gibson
Gender expectations, the ways that a person interacts with societal norms about how to perform according to one’s biological anatomy, can create an enormous amount of rigidity and anxiety for children and families. This workshop will explore how family process can create a wide (or narrow) spectrum for acceptance and performativity of gender. Participants will explore how the division of labor and decision-making power between parents, the mutual (or imbalanced) involvement of mothers and fathers, and the ways that parents educate their children and teens about sex contribute to the ways that family members experience anxiety around gender performativity.
