How do you think the field of therapy is going to look in ten years? How do you want our field to look like in ten years? What are some of the barriers that may prevent your vision from coming true?

The New England Association for Family and Systemic Therapy (NEAFAST) and William James College invite you to share your input and energy at the State of Therapy Conference on Friday, November 15 from 9am-5pm.

The State of Therapy Conference will include:

  • Collaborative conversations between therapists about impacting and improving the state of therapy in Massachusetts
  • Panel discussions and small group conversations to explore how therapists in Massachusetts can advocate for the practice of family and systemic therapy to larger systems
  • An evaluation of some of the issues that limit the capacity, growth, and practice of family therapy in Massachusetts, including the development of best practice standards for couples therapy, the expansion of quality supervision opportunities, and the creation of ways to effectively communicate the process of family therapy to the public

9-9:15am Introduction to the Day
9:15-10:15am The State of Therapy: Five therapists in different developmental stages discuss the life cycle of their practice
10:15-11:30am Workshop #1

  • Creating collaborative mentoring relationships between newer therapists and more experienced therapist
  • Incorporating systemic therapy into in-home therapy training
  • Best practice standards for couples therapy

11:30-11:45am Break
11:45am-1pm Workshop #2

  • Starting and building a private practice
  • Cultivating processes for effective, strength-based supervision
  • Disseminating information about the process of couples/family therapy to the public

1-2pm Lunch and NEAFAST Annual Conference
2-3:15pm Workshop #3

  • Practicing an inclusive, multicultural approach
  • Cultivating support systems for agency employees
  • Developing an ongoing training module around ethics

3:15-3:30pm Break
3:30-5pm Workshop Review: Highlights presented and discussed with full group
5pm Closing Remarks, Call to Action, Evaluation

The State of Therapy Conference is incredibly affordable ($150), and includes breakfast, lunch,
6 CEs, and the opportunity to learn from, network and collaborate with other family and
systemic therapists.

expectations for family and systemic therapy. We can collaborate with each other to build
stronger professional relationships so that family therapists are supported at all points. We can
share our expertise about the practice of family therapy with other therapists, other larger
systems, and families of all kinds in the state of Massachusetts.
